Our failure and damage analysis activities

Since the 1960s, CTE has acquired in-depth technical knowledge of the equipment used by the Air Liquide Group worldwide.

Our scope

Investigations are carried out after incidents or accidents to determine their causes.

Our experts carry out these investigations on different types of equipment or accessories using oxygen, hydrogen, medical gases, etc. We can recreate the conditions of the incident or accident to verify the hypotheses of the root cause analysis.

Oxygen failures

We analyse components following failures or incidents related to the use of oxygen.

Oxygen failure investigations

Mechanical or material failures

We analyse gas cylinders, valves, hoses or damaged materials and components.

Mechanical failure investigations

Estimating the residual lifetime of methane steam reformer tubes

The steam reforming of methane is a process used to produce hydrogen. This process requires the use of furnaces operating at very high temperature. For the Air Liquide group, we estimate the residual lifetime of the tubes using creep tests or replica microstructure examinations.

Our tools

  • Metallography laboratory

  • Optical microscopy room

Our testing activities

CTE offers tests on oxygen safety, cylinder conformity and equipment performance.
