Testing of gas cylinders

Testing for the approval of gas cylinders is essential to ensure the safe use of the cylinders.

Carrying out tests according to three international standards

Air Liquide CTE performs these tests, mainly according to three international standards :

  • ISO 9809-1 for steel cylinders
  • NF EN 12245 for composite cylinders
  • ISO 7866 for aluminium alloy cylinders

What is the objective? A reliable and complete inspection of gas cylinders !

What tests are required for the approval of gas cylinders?

Our technicians carry out tests on all types of gas cylinders from type I to type IV.

  • Hydraulic pressure tests
  • Burst tests up to 4,000 bar.
  • Pressure cycling tests up to 1,400 bar.
  • Visual inspection of the surface and control of dimensions.
  • Checking the bottom closure of the cylinder.
  • Chemical analysis of materials.
  • Microstructure and grain size analysis.
  • Intergranular corrosion testing of aluminium alloys.
  • Mechanical tests: hardness, tensile test and impact bending test (Charpy-V).

The maximum capacity of the tested cylinders is approx. 50 L for steel or aluminium cylinders and 350 L for composite cylinders.

Need to perform tests on cylinders with a higher capacity or according to other standards ?
